- Overview
and analysis of the key
international conventions applicable to ship operations and safe
management, such as SOLAS, MARPOL and the ISM Code, including
certificates and documents required to be carried on board ships
- STCW including the application of hours
of work and rest legislation
- Overview of the Maritime Labor
Convention (MLC), crew agreements, conditions of employment, official
log book entries and applicable laws. Crew complaints, procedures and
routine inspections of living quarters and store rooms
- Flag State
and Port State Control
Inspections, statutory and classification surveys and audits
- SOPEP
manual, Garbage Management Plan and
the use of anti-pollution equipment. Actions required in response to
pollution incidents on board and measures to be taken to prevent
pollution in port and at sea
- Requirements
for records including Oil
Record Book and entries
- Requirements
for drills, training,
regulations concerning fire-fighting and life-saving appliances
- Precautions
to safeguard against terrorism,
piracy and armed robbery
- Health and
Safety legislation, including the
Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen. Introduction to
Risk Assessment and requirements for ensuring a safe workplace
environment, including the use of safety equipment and PPE
- International
Regulations for Preventing
Collisions at Sea, Passage Planning, navigational publications and
charts, navigational safety procedures and applicable requirements
including Pilotage
- Putting
into port with damage to ship and/or
cargo, both from the business and technical points of view
- Marine
Safety Investigations and reports

- Vessel
reporting requirements
- Loading,
Discharging Cargoes, Equipment & Safety of Operations, Applicable
Regulations for the safe carriage of cargoes.
